Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

We are closed from 12.30pm to 1.30pm every day.
Please avoid phoning before 10.30.am for general enquiries as the phones are busy with staff handling appointments for the day.
We will not deal with requests for test results until after 11.30am.

The Patient Entry Touch Screen

To enable our reception staff to give more time to patients enquiries the practice has introduced an automated patient check in system as an alternative to notifying the receptionist.

Please do use it to let the doctors and nurses know you have arrived so the receptionist can deal with other matters.

It also has the great advantage that you can ensure the doctor knows you are here. Sometimes our receptionist can be so busy she overlooks your arrival and we then think you have failed to appear.

If you have ANY PROBLEM using the system (eg you have very poor vision) simply check in by speaking to the receptionist.

Simply follow the instructions on the touch screen opposite our front door and the doctor or nurse will automatically know you have arrived.

A light touch on each answer is all you need do.

When We Are Closed

OUT OF HOURS COVER (after 6.30 pm and at weekends) is for urgent medical problems that cannot safely wait until the surgery re-opens. As GPs we no longer have responsibility for out of hours care.

It is now provided by the 'Out of Hours service' called Thamesdoc via the Practice telephone 0208 335 6600.

There are several ‘Walk in Centres’ locally which can be useful for minor illness and are often open later than the surgery. Walk-in Centres do not usually treat children under the age of two years.
